At Home by the Sea: Houses Designed for Living at the Water's Edge
Author: Bruce Snider; photography by Brian Vanden Brink
Hardcover, 200 pages, 245 color photos, 13 floor and site plans, 8-1/2" x 11".

Brian Vanden Brink joins forces with Custom Home magazine senior editor Bruce Snider to take readers into 20 stunning seaside homes from Canada’s Bay of Fundy to tropical splendor in St. Barthelemy.
While Snider uses his architectural expertise and his skills at gaining special insights from home owners to describe the homes, which range from the historic to the ultra-modern, Vanden Brink’s photos show that these homes by the sea are intimately linked to their seascape settings. Decks, porches, and of course windows and mirrors bring seaside vistas into the living space. Floor plans and site plans are provided for many of the houses.
At Home By The Sea soon to be available wherever books are sold or directly from Down East Books: www.downeastbooks.com or 800-685-7962.

Vanden Brink was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1951 and began his career in photography there nearly thirty years ago. Upon moving to Maine in 1978, he began to specialize in architectural photography, using a large format view camera and working extensively with natural light. He occasionally lectures and holds workshops on architectural photography.
Vanden Brink is passionate about photographing architecture. His primary focus is residential work but his archives include buildings of all types, from research and institutional buildings to schools, vernacular architecture and even abandoned buildings. When not photographing, he can be seen driving around town with his two dogs in his 1951 army surplus jeep with the top down. Vanden Brink is very involved with his local church, and also volunteers with the Yokefellows Prison Ministry at the Maine State Prison. He lives in Camden, Maine, with his wife, Kathleen, to whom he has been married for 32 years. |
