INSIDE THE WALLS
Built in 1824, the Maine State Prison
in Thomaston Maine had become
one of the oldest prisons in the
country still in use after 175 years.
In 2001, prior to the scheduled
demolition of the complex, Brian was
asked to create a final photographic
record of this historic facility.

FORT KNOX
A monumental work of art built to
deter an enemy that would never
come, Fort Knox has stood
unoccupied for the last 150 years.
Aside from the many tourists who
visit each summer and the yearly
historical reenactments of the 20th
Maine-Company B, the fort is
abandoned to the ravages of time.
Brian had the opportunity to
photograph the monument in 1990.

LAST LOOK AT A LANDMARK
Jutting into the Androscoggin River as
it has since 1868, the Bowdoin Mill
in Topsham stands as a monument
to Maine's industrial past. With the
pressure mounting to demolish the
dilapidated structures, the Historic
Architecture and Building Survey
hired Brian to make a complete
photographic record of the once
vibrant nineteenth-century factory.

THE KILLING FIELDS
As a monument to the Cold War, the
weapons storage area at the former
Loring Air Force Base in Northern
Maine seems rather nondescript, even
desolate. Yet in its day this complex
of underground bunkers and buildings
was the most heavily guarded and
dangerous piece of real estate in
Maine. Brian was invited to create
A photo-record of this once important
base closed since 1994.
